The aim of this thread to initiate discussion with Linux Graphic Stack developers (freedesktop.org).
I think it's worth to try attract their attention to our problems. As first step all of us should add our Linux related cases/stories to add weight and objectivity to discussed problem. It's not clear what exactly should be written, I think it's worth to mention next things:
- (Several) Recent acceptable Linux distribution and (several earliest) unacceptable
- Hardware configuration per each point from 1. (at least graphic card + monitor + monitor backlight type (CCFL or LED) + connection type(s) (DVI, HDMI, DP, VGA))
- Observable symptoms for bad configurations (please also mention is these symptoms similar that you have on LED devices or not if your are still using CCFL displays and can't switch to LED)
