So long story - in the process of playing with updates my known-good Dell XPS 13" (2015 model, with Intel 5500 graphics) got updated to 19xx and had to be reformatted.
So I dropped 1511 on there. Latest iteration (the one from April 2016).
Basic display driver seems ok, but I have yet to find an Intel driver that is comfy. I know I had a SPECIFIC one that was VERY old, and I thought it was the one from Intel's site (beta combined 7/8/10 driver v220.127.116.1174) but that doesn't seem to be it, at least not on white colored windows. So now I'm pulling my hair out trying to find any mention of which driver version I used previously.
I haven't ruled out the idea that the 1511.3 is not as good ass 1511.1 or 1507, and I could certainly install LTSB 2015 instead, but was hoping to make 1511 work since it still has some security updates, and is a little more friendly to drivers for various things than 1507 was.
I also haven't ruled out that maybe I had a Dell-specific driver of some kind on there. I had literally been fiddling with that laptop's config since 2015.
Thoughts on drivers? Should I be mining the depths of google looking for a better driver? Or downgrading to 1507? Or looking for a panel driver?
Bear in mind, that the login screen and the windows basic display driver were pretty ok for the couple minutes they were in use. But maybe not as perfect as I remember the machine being.
