  • Forcing HDR movies to play in SDR on Amazon Prime and Netflix - Possible?

I have an OLED LG C9 and this TV is amazing and actually quite comfortable the large majority of the time, as long as I'm watching SDR and set the OLED light setting really low (often to as low as 0). Even at 0 OLED light, the picture gets bright enough to be enjoyable but not so bright that it causes eyestrain.

The problem is with HDR. You can't reduce the OLED light setting in HDR without messing up the picture, as it makes the dark scenes way too dark. It is supposed to be left at default settings.

The only workaround is to use a 1080p Amazon Fire Stick, which plays the SDR "version" of a HDR movies, instead of LG's native webOS, which forces HDR when it is available.

Unfortunately, with the Fire Stick, I am stuck at 1080p. This is a bit snobbish, but I'd like to take advantage of the full 4K resolution without HDR. Is this possible with any other external player? For example, can you turn off HDR on a 4K Amazon Fire Stick?

You need to ask a feature specific question like this on a C9 or firestick forum.
