  • Still patching daily with Windows 10 ...

It is frankly embarrassing to have to do it, but so far I've managed to slog along for a few months using Windows 10 by patching my right eye. To me this proves 100% beyond any doubt that the issue (for me at least) is 100% related to my bincular vision processing be adversely effected by the way Window 10 displays the screen.

I am curious if this counts as some sort of "training" that is strengthening something weak in my facial muscles/brian, and after some period of time the eyepatch will go. So far I have not developed any significant ability to use Windows 10 without patching pain free, some days I can go a second, some days 10 or so seconds, but my eyes always fail qiuckly

That’s interesting, congrats on finding a solution. Have you noticed any adverse effects from using the eye patch in general? And are you able to use windows completely without pain if using the patch?

I notice relief, too, when looking at general "temporal dithering" output (quotes because no proof) like Firefox, Windows 10, etc. while covering an eye. However, this is no fix for me as it's still uncomfortable, and it doesn't help me at all with other symptoms caused by other flicker, nor with brightness/White LED issues.

I am really happy that you keep up patching. For me it changed my binocular vision so i can use bad screens, i hope you will get same results! I don’t know if i did something more special when covering one eye, maybe it was a combination of covering and something happened that change my binocular vision or something was different for me.

That's interesting Mike, and I have tried an eye patch briefly but didn't stick with it. It's always my left eye that develops pain and ultimate a migraine across the left side of my head. Did you cover your bad eye or your good eye (if you have one)?

For the most I covered my right non-dominant lazy eye.

Start cover-training with one eye, and if that doesn’t improve, try your other eye.

For me it felt weird and uncomfortable with covering one eye. I did my first tests late 2011 and didn’t felt any difference. My second tests late 2018 i had progress after three weeks. I wish I didn’t wait 7 eyes, and that’s why i write this so maybe I can help others.

It can help, but it is very unlikely to fix it unless a specific weakness in the eye you now use predominately causes your problems. Most likely you have other issues when using your eyes together which can most likely only be improved by using them together.

I also cover my eyes to work on specific displays for now over 18 months and cannot see any improvements for my binocular vision.

However, hip and jaw alignment have an impact on my binocular vision, since I have an issue with vertical misalignment of my eyes. You can probably see this when you uncover your covered eye and if you "see" the second image comes in from above or below.

For me it took three weeks to get great improvements for my binocular vision.

Why did it work for me? it's a rhetorical question I like to solve.

Do you cover the eye that hurts most, or the other eye? Or is there no difference? My left eye hurts first and most, so I wonder which eye I should cover for best long-term results.

Edit: It seems patching one eye can prevent motion sickness. Pretty interesting.

This is really interesting. I've been trying patching my right eye while using my MacBook and it's noticeably better. Not perfect, but definitely better. I wonder if it's actually related to patching & binocular vision, or if it's simply that I'm reducing the exposure to flicker by 50%. Either way, I'm going to keep testing this out.

You mentioned that it actually changed your vision so you can use problematic screens comfortably now, is that still the case for you?

That’s good news, keep up patching and see if it’s getting better!

For me one-eye-training changed my binocular vision, so now i can use all screens with both eyes open. I think when the brain gets info from one eye instead of two, it sends other signals to the eye muscles. That part needs to be reprogrammed, something like that.
