My recent bout with a Lenovo IdeaPad5 has made me realized that I'm only one broken hardware or OS upgrade away from being unable to enjoy life or work. Prescription medications like Topamax have really awful side effects. I don't have much time nor expertise to lend to this cause, but I am happy to pay.
I am wondering how we can fund research into this? I will gladly fund at least several thousand USD for some research into these issues. I don't think anyone has been able to define the root cause of some of our issues on a technical root cause. I just don't really know who could do such research. PWM/temporal dithering seems to be a red herring for many. There has got to be something else we haven't identified; something not present in the early 2010s.
My journey started back in 2013 with MBPs. It's almost a decade later, and we are still having these issues!
This is a constant source of anxiety for me: what if I have to use a new computer for work, what if my aging smartphone dies, etc.
Is there any company or university research that could be funded? I believe @martin mentions some research in the past. I would gladly pay Apple or Intel or Microsoft to look into these things.
One possible starting point is having these companies test their devices on people with known binocular vision dysfunctions (convergence excess/esophoria, convergence insufficiency/exophoria, amongst others).
Perhaps we can pay someone like https://twitter.com/raysoneira, an expert in displays.
Let me know with any thoughts.
