[deleted] I fully agree with the PWM categorization, as I have 30 years of experience with it. Any PWM has always been a problem for me.
But I would also then add some additional categories:
- Those who suddenly started experiencing eye strain with all displays
- Those who feel they get symptoms from some OS or driver or display adapter bios or display adapter hardware version
I think there are many of us who suddenly started to have problems with all displays, without having problems e.g. reading a book in natural light.
Then there is the latter category, which in my opinion needs a bit more proof. There are reports of people tolerating certain OS versions, but not others. My guess is that those might still belong to the category who have generally started to have eye strain with any displays. Don't take this as inflammatory, this is just what I feel at the moment, since I suddenly became intolerant to all displays and eye patching, or using just one eye to watch displays helps, as it does for others in the OS version group. It takes quite a bit of time and testing to really prove that yes, you are able to use certain device without any issues. In my own situation I've had days where I think I'm able to tolerate a previously OK display, but on the next day I'm not. What I think is happening, is that it is just cumulative strain. When I have slept well and my eyes are rested, I'm able to tolerate a display longer, but if I do 10h consecutive workdays, my eyes will be strained, whereas before this general intolerability situation I had no such issue. I personally have not been able to prove that some version would be OK and some not. Just out of the blue after heavy use, my eyes "resigned" and started to get strained with all of the 5+ displays that I own. If I had even one device out of the 5+ that I would tolerate, then I would start to believe that it could be a version issue, but since all displays started to irritate at the same time, I believe it is a cumulative strain issue.
Can someone report here if they really have general intolerance to most displays but they have one device or version that really is OK to be used, say 12h a day?
