Just saying, if you switch your graphics cards, make sure to clean-install the driver. I recently tried to use my Windows 10 PC again, and in the process I switched to my old Quadro NVS 295 card. I looked at temporal dithering (confirmed with E Ink screen). I switched back to the GeForce GT 710 (letting Windows handle everything) and to my surprise the temporal dithering was still there. The Nvidia control panel was gone, too.

So I clean-installed the latest DCH driver from nvidia.com (which means checking "Perform a clean installation" during setup) and the Nvidia control panel from the Microsoft Store. The temporal dithering was then gone immediately.

I used DDU to clean install an older driver but still have problems with the 3060ti. But thats very interesting you are able to see the dithering with an e-ink screen, which one do you have?

I changed some monitor settings as well and made things much worse, its now as bad as it was on day 1. I tried to get better color / light / dark accuracy by changing contrast and lowering the RGB values slightly and it was an instant pressure pain and bad migraine.

I dont think I can get used to this, I am able to feel more normal quicker than day 1 but I still get noticable pain from using the 3060ti, I'm going to try the eye patching thing even though when I had an eye test I was told I do not have an eye issue.

I'm still testing the 3060ti each day for approx 1 hour. It still gives me a headache / migraine within a few minutes of use. Some days this will last till the next day, other days its not so bad the next day.

I have now tried it on 3 flicker free monitors:

    Benq TN 1080p 75hz 8bit no FRC

    LG IPS 1080p 75hz 6+2 FRC

Iiyama IPS 1080p 144hz (can also do 165hz) think this is 6+2 FRC?

Its the same on all of them. My 1660s is ok on the Benq and LG but not the iiyama.

I have two old CCFL screens with PWM that I could try but they are not a solution.

Interestingly I immediately made things worse when I tried to get the contrast set using the langom website and some contrast settings from the rtings website when using the iiyama screen, making the changes incorrectly made things worse…..I now have it very dim (not that it wasnt before) but the contrast is set according to these external calibration sites. Its no better than it was to start with though I think.

Trying the eye patching method but I'm not sure I have a eye issue, I still beleive mine is neurological.

I stopped using the 3060ti and all my symptoms have just about gone. Nvidia have told me there is no difference between the 3060ti and 1660super output though.

I may try to buy a used 2060 / 2070 now that prices have come down a bit as I believe they are the same chip series as the 1660 series.

      HAL9000

HAL9000 Nvidia have told me there is no difference between the 3060ti and 1660super output though.

Grumble grumble. If I had both cards in front of me I could probably prove them wrong in half an hour 🙂

Has anyone AMD RadeonRX 6950 XT? I'm really curious to know how those fair vs the possible troublesome 30XX Nvidia cards.

      • JTL replied to this.

Clokwork I mentioned this before, and while my research is still early I have reason to believe a similar game of inconsistent output quality could be a problem for AMD cards as well.

JTL So not only do we have to worry about if the card, by design, causes harm to some of us, but also the inconsistencies in manufacturing too? That's tough…

So one thing I noticed with my current 1070 is that I have no HDR options. My monitor is also not capable. That said if you are to turn off all HDR options in windows with these newer cards, does it make a difference?

Clokwork Not entirely sure. My current working theory is with certain Nvidia cards the VBIOS at a certain version may have gotten dithering forced to be always on.

The limited data here suggest something is potentially up, but inconclusive without enough samples.

JTL I’m sorry if this has been covered before, but nobody at Nvidia is able to be reached for comment? This seems like if it made it past the first two tiers of customer service it might actually get to someone who knows the answer.

Clokwork Big tech companies are "siloed" off enough that the actual engineering team and customer support are several layers of abstraction from each other.

Who can blame them? If they weren't than everyone and their dog would be harassing the actual engineering division with trivial problems.

From what I understand customer support claims nothing is different. Although perhaps we're asking the wrong questions...

Hello) I'm desperate, so I'm joing the club(

Had very old computer with Nvidea 560 ti and all was OK with my eyes, until I buy myself new computer for work. My eyes hurt and I really afraid for my vision( I have one 'lazy' eye so my eye sight is not binocular. But I must work for hours with new machine and I want to work on it outside my job as well, but my eyes hurt and strained for 2 weeks now, And I don't know, what to do, I can't afford new GPU х(

I have ASUS motherboard with ASUS 1660 ti. Tried several monitors with no luck. Tried DVI > HDMI adapter on GPU - same strain. New working week seems like nightmare, I'm constantly on eye gel and eyedrops and in constant dread for permanent eye damage(

Tried to plug my monitor to motherboard to check if effect the same, but it had no signal( Is there ANY decision for this? Or is there any chance for eyes to get use to new conditions and this feeling go away? x( Sometimes I think, that it gets better, than in the begging, but maybe it's just self-suggestion...

chaosgrape Do you need a strong GPU for work?

If not, you could consider using the integrated Intel graphics or selling your 1660 Ti and buying a used Kepler Nvidia card.

degen I'm a graphic designer and illustrator( I cant work on integrated card, 'cause soft is very demanding, especially 3D( I build this PC, 'cause my old one cannot provide me normal work at all. And I only have this PC and I can't prpovide myself with extra time to do this and stay without PC at all at some time. But it seems there is no any option?

                    8 days later

reaganry Well, the problem with that is we have multiple threads for multiple GPUs so...

                    9 days later

I now have (no money) a 3060ti and a 2060 to test. They are both largely the same, I feel the 2060 doesnt affect me as much as the 3060ti however it is still significant.

Everything is the same, only difference is GPU. I reinstalled drivers same version but same issue.

Initially on day 1 with 2060 I could feel it hurt my eyes, they felt sore initially, this pain slowly got worse then I feel from my head, I can feel pain inside my head, it gest worse, pressure pain, I feel disorentated, my head feels heavy and there is significant pressure pain. Eye drops help my eye issues as it feels my eye gets very dry.

I test monitor output (IPS and TN tested PWM free no flicker) on full and limited RGB, full is slightly brighter when using a light meter app, I get symptoms on either setting though but testing on limited as it slightly dims the color intensity

This 'migraine' continues for several hours after stopping use of the machine, into the next day. Exposure for only a few minutes is enough to cause symptoms.

I use my 1660super though, everything is ok, no issues at all.

My last resort is to try another monitor, I do not own a VA monitor so I'll try to get one of those.
