I agree the Dell monitors I mainly buy and describe are really old (mostly from late 2000's). Where I'm located, France, the second-hand market (Leboncoin) is quite strong and I find such monitors at affordable prices (around 40€ for a 2009WT, 45$). I even bought a refurbished one with 2 years warranty on Backmarket for around 75€ (84$). My 2209WA costed me 45€ and it's even good for gaming, but I don't have any warranty on it.
I feel that many companies used such monitors at the time, the Ultrasharp product line (U2410, etc…) was business-oriented so they may have been used for many hours already, but they also feel quite robust.
I admit since I have this solution, I haven't bought newer monitors, but I definitely can't look at my coworkers' LED-backlit monitors for more than a few minutes.
