I bought this E-ink tablet, https://www.amazon.com/BOOX-Note-Android-Digital-Notepad/dp/B07FC76MK7/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 and experienced a lot of eye strain and headache. The first e-ink tablet i bought did have a backlight and i ended up returning it.

I'm thinking of building my own desktop with this screen:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08P1TW96R/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_0RTNWHTEBWQASGZP39QW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I want to see if i have some kind of headache with that screen.

What experiences did you guys have with E-ink? The only screen i found to not have any effect on me whatsoever was the Liquid crystal displays.

with eink it's all about the refreshing. my hisense A5 has some kind of rapid/partial refresh (A2) that works great for me, but my likebook ares note isnt as comfortable.

I tried a yotaphone a while ago and it gave me a migraine, no backlight, just the e-ink screen. I think it was the fuzzy way e-ink animates that did it. I have been fine using an old ereader that did not animate.

    6 days later

hisense a9 is out. should be perfect if it actually gets US reception [update: working on metro by T-mobile in dallas and denver areas and most of the drive between]

mashedpotato i tried a Blaupunkt Livro ebook reader (eink). When i just look at a page, it gives me no strain. But when i "turn the page", the entire screen goes quickly black-white-black-white (for half a second) and this slowly gives me my standard eyespasm (after many "pages turned").
