It was an attempt to save money on the skyrocketing cost of electricity.

So my city has been removing the traditional sodium lights and replacing them with these brilliant white LED lamps that no, nobody here would enjoy. I feel they're first generation garbage and no consideration was given to their selection. I'm pissed about it because they're moving so fast on these installations, and there is a streetlight in front of my house so of course I am getting light pollution from this as well.

There is discussion taking place globally on this subject, but it didn't take place here, and these things have 15-20 year lifespans.

These streetlights can transform the near environment with harshness and glare. The LED industry has sold a bill of goods to utilities and municipalities, in a kind of green fundamentalism ("if it's cheap, then humans be damned"). These kinds of deals lead to wholesale installation of the LEDs in different applications. My first taste of this was 15 years ago when New York City replaced the traditional traffic signal fixtures with LEDs. Can't look at them.

I've read of at least one city -- Davis California -- which got saturated with LEDs thanks to one of these deals, but residents put their voices together in opposition and got the nasty lights removed.

I'm very sorry to hear. I would gather all the documentation together about the negative effects of LED lights you can and petition your city council to remove the lights.
