My Intel iGPU is dithering on the external monitor.

This is annoying. I don't know if I am more sensitive now, or if something got glitched.

This is on Windows 10 w/ Broadwell drivers.

What I observe is more shimmer and when I run ditherig the picture becomes more stable.

My monitor is FRC/temporal dither and with the driver, it's doubling it so it's more noticeable.

It's not my imagination. Ditherig is working on my external monitor. I'm not sure why. Maybe because the motherboard is basically a laptop board.

Very interesting. I always thought ditherig will only work on a laptop display 🙂. I don't think the answer is in the source code, but it is open source.

I wonder how we could test it. Capture card? Microscope with slow motion camera?

Do you still get benefits from ditherig @Sunspark? My perhaps wrong understanding was Intel disables temporal dithering by default, and, not via external monitor. But it seems that is no the case here.

I seem to recall you had a capture card, would be interesting to test this theory.

I don't use ditherig because I don't really need it on my current hardware.

I am skeptical about Intel's claims of TD being disabled, but I have no hardware to measure/check with and wouldn't be able to anyway because my monitor is a FRC monitor so I will get TD no matter what.

I do feel using YCbCr/YPbPr mode is implemented differently in the driver than RGB mode, and if your monitor is set to a 4:4:4 chroma, you will not lose colour accuracy, so it is worth trying. I use Y with IT content off.
