I think social anxiety, brain fog, inability to focus… could also just be symptoms of new screens usage. So many more people struggle with variants of adhd nowadays (pure speculation based on my observations) and I think screens greatly contribute to this.
The cause could be dithering but there may be something else. I suspect very high gamut coverage to also cause discomfort. Cause most content on the internet can only display srgb so a high gamut screen that can't be clamped to srgb will display weird colors. And when you get to see actual real colors in real life, your brain kind of goes crazy which could create anxiety like symptoms. Just a theory. Personally, even when using an oled panel at max brightness with no pwm, Oled still makes me feel weird and unable to organize my thoughts properly and I think it's because of the very high gamut as well as dithering.
Only pwm and screens that use intense red phosphors (like LG nano ips gaming monitors for ex) actually make my eyes strain and burn. But most of my symptoms with other screens are a strong discomfort, feeling jittery or numbed down in front of the screen, my right eye seeming weaker but with no strain.
What I think kind of works for me is avoiding :
Pwm
Oled
Anything higher than 100% srgb
Any dedicated gpu (only integrated feels much better for me).
AU optronics screens, for some reason, those have always been extremely bad be it at 15.6 inch on laptops or as bigger monitors. It's like they use some dithering by their own regardless of the gpu.
Recent screens. If I can, I prefer to use an old screen (preferably pre 2015) as I think new screens could use some dithering by their own. Also older screens seem to come with a bluer temperature which I prefer much more than the more reddish tones newer screens display.
Too low contrast but it's matter of agreability at this point.
As for phones, I had working phones that got unusable after an update. And I seem to not be able to use any recent phone. So I just work with pre 2018 phones disabling updates.
This problem is almost making me quit gaming which I love. Fortunately the game I used to play the most is playable with an integrated gpu.
