Hi all,
It is probably going to look like a strange post, but like many of you, something triggered a months-long period of dizziness, eye strain, eye burning, headaches, nausea, … . Once I identified it was due to switching to a MacBook Pro 16 in the fall of 2020, I got rid of it and basically things went back to normal within a few days.
Now, in the last 2 years, two other strange episodes occurred: the first one was an ocular migraine under fluorescent lightning in April 2021 (a part of the lab where I work at that I never go into for long periods of time). The second one (in December 2021) was a return of this eye strain with pressure around the eyes similar to what happened with the Macbook Pro. I possibly attributed this to my home lightning (and I changed the very flickery LEDs to some Philips LEDs that definitely flicker less).
Since then (so almost 10 months ago), I have had no symptoms at all. I did upgrade from an iPhone 8 to a 13 Pro and was very unsure of it, but I have been using it for 3+ months with no issues whatsoever. My Windows (10 Pro) laptop (still a 5+ year old Dell Precision 5520) is getting all the Microsoft updates as it is a work laptop and so far, no issues.
The only thing, really, is that every time I have to look at my colleague's MacBook Pro 16 (the one I had), I have this unsettling feeling like something is not right. I am pretty sure there is something strange going on with my eyes not being able to focus correctly on that screen.
So I am really wondering to what I am being sensitive to? Would I be able to use a Mac Mini? A new laptop with an OLED screen? Is my issue really related to the specific screen used in the MacBook Pro line (or this specific MacBook) and not the actual technology behind it (dithering, PWM, …) such as glare, glass thickness, …? This is very confusing.
Has anybody had a similar experience?
