Hello everyone,

as you may have already read in other discussions, my DELL latitude 7420 work pc has always been unusable for me, and I solved the problem by connecting it to an external UPERFECT 17" monitor.

With the update of W11 KB5020875, the external monitor also becomes unusable. I have uninstalled it but company policies force to keep the PC updated so I don't know much longer I can uninstall the update. Every day I get it installed and every day I uninstall it.

On the Microsoft site, I read that it is an update to the .net framework. But what impact can it have on an external monitor connected via HDMI?

Thanks

That monitor supports displayport as well as usb-c. So, if your laptop doesn't have a mini-dp or dp output, then get a displayport active adapter to hdmi and see how that does. If it has a port already then just use a dp cable directly. You should also try a usb-c cable. It does not need to be a power-delivery one because we're only talking about video/audio here. Both of these methods will present a different image than hdmi.

I bought the external monitor in January and have always used it via USB-C (which is much more convenient than HDMI since it transmits both the video signal and power) but with the August updates I could no longer use the monitor via USB-C and found that with HDMI it was still perfect.

Now with the KB5020875 update the HDMI port is screwed as well.

Next week I will try to use USBC again, maybe that one is back ok.

It sounds like my own problem.

I can try a few options when I get back from vacation:

        1) Try the USB-C port.

        2) Try older GPU drivers (they didn't update in December).

        3) Disable .net framework from windows functions (I don't know the side effects).

        4) Neurolens arrive next week.

Lauda89 What about trying the displayport input on it? At my previous job on the desk monitor the picture was better for me with displayport than hdmi. If your laptop doesn't have that, you could get a usb-c to displayport cable and try that too.

          10 days later

I tried the update KB5020875 even with my desktop monitor (Benq V2400W CCFL) and have the same symptoms!

Sunspark The UPERFECT monitor dosn't have the display port. I am using HDMI with it and HDMI --> DVI-D with the Benq.

Maybe i can ask to the it departemnt to get W10 21H2 LTSC?!

            7 days later

            I'm freaking out.

How the fuck is it possible for an upgrade to cause me headaches and dizziness on two monitors that have nothing in common:

BENQ V2400W: TN panel, 1920*1200 60hz, CCFL with PWM

Uperfect 17: IPS panel, 1920*1080 60hz, 8BIT LED without PWM

I tried taking a 240fps video with a microscope to see if the pixels changed (dithering?) before and after the update, but I see no difference.

Oshim I can't block the updates. I work for Accenture and they force you to install every update even newer versions of BIOS. 🙁
I will have to change jobs and move to smaller consulting companies.

I could try a MacBook with that app "better display" which seems working well for some users in the forum. I honestly don't like macos but if that APP solves our problem, I can adapt.

The suggestion of the adapter (or dock/hub) is not a bad idea. An extra layer of processing can sometimes take the edge off..

Sunspark @martin writes here about using a VGA cable to solve problems:

I first noticed I have issues back at the end of 2013 when I tried to connect my Acer laptop to the new Asus monitor via HDMI. The issue was not immediate pain, but inability to really focus on the screen followed by brain fog and nausea. When I connected it via VGA, the problems went away (and as has been stated by some engineers I got to know later, its entirely possible that HDMI introduces forms of flicker and dithering that VGA simply "washes out" in the process).

I do wonder what VGA does differently. Anecdotally I've seen docks/hubs make things worse, too, so they could definitely make it better 🙂!

I see… Thought you were talking about your personal computer.
