Usable Smartphones?

I'm using LineageOS 18.1 (based on 11), much better than stock. LOS has DC dimming toggleable in tiles but i have turned it on nonstop. A12 based LOS 19 is coming in next few weeks
On Oxygenos 11 you could turn it on throug ADB commands but on OOS12 everything is different (fuc**d up). But fortunately this is an officially supported model by LOS so it can last much much longer than with stock os

Staycalmsyndrome I have Moto G100 on the way and I was wondering if you found it comfortable on Android 11 or the new Android 12 update? Did it force update to 12?
@Maxx Wish me luck!

degen I'm sending the G100 back. It was good but not perfect and a little on the bulky side. Didn't upgrade to Android 12 because i unlocked the bootloader and tested a bunch of custom roms on it. Didn't make a difference. Be aware that if you unlock the bootloader you can't lock it back and reclaim warranty. I bricked mine and some dude from XDA helped me restore it back to stock. Currently testing the Oneplus 8T with dc dimming enabled on LOS 18.1 which seems a little better but i'll have to use it for a couple of more days and with different apps before i reach a conclusion.
Staycalmsyndrome Ah I see. Was the minimum brightness to avoid PWM an issue at alll?

degen Might be a little too bright during night time. Try the extra dim and night light features in display settings that Android 12 has.

Staycalmsyndrome I might try OnePlus 9 with LOS. (OnePlus 8T is sold out in Canada). OnePlus 3 had software-induced strain starting with Android 8 so I am glad that perhaps newer OnePlus has improved. I realize you are still testing though.

It looks like it is hope, for new modern phone with no PWM:
Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T pro plus
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Xiaomi-Re ... 174.0.html
It could be outside China, rebranded and sold in some of the variant of Poco phone:
Poco X4 GT
Poco X4 GT+
https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.gsmarena ... -54342.php
But of course, that possibly good information should be verified, when someone will have that phone in the hands for tests.
Staycalmsyndrome Are you absolutely sure that you used it with the brightness above 65% and that you did not have too fast screen off time, where it dims the screen and enables the PWM? I found with some phone that the screen dimmed after 30 sec or so and I ended up looking at PWM flickering several times a day.

Mi 10T pro, even it had IPS screen, had PWM of 2381 Hz when dimmed below certain brightness value.
Not all IPS screen all PWM free. Even if they are,
according to many users there also could be other phenomena like color dithering, etc. that cause eye strain.
But it is worth try that upcoming:
Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T pro plus
Poco X4 GT
Poco X4 GT+
Because there all be with new components, decent cpu power, probably usable main camera, fresh battery, and few years of android OS updates.
We will see upgraded LTPS IPS LCD screen, that looking into the specification will be PWM free. Maybe it will be dithering free?
And advertisement claims that someone at Xiaomi spend some time, about resolving the PWM problem. They will build advertisement strategy about that topic. We will know when phone will be released.
Of course, someone should check that screen is usable. Made some tests with oscilloscope. Use it for some time...
It is also worth mentioning that OnePlus also should release phone with LCD screen.
OnePlus Ace Racing Edition.

But it is still unknown if it will be released globally, or the phone will have PWM...

Maxx The screen was pretty usable but i am also sensitive to radio waves. Some chinese phones give of pretty bad vibes even when they are turned off or disconnected from battery.
Are there different models of the g100? Some listing say it has 5g and others don't. Looking to buy one to use with Verizon in USA. Just want to make sure there are no screen differences if there are different versions of the phone.
John615 the Moto G100 isn’t compatible with Verizon. Only GSM networks such as ATT and T-Mobile. Also, T-Mobile is the only network that supports 5G on that phone.
John615 it may only have a couple Verizon bands which could result in poor service. Haven’t researched enough on the exact phone, but going by Motorola’s website it says incompatible with Verizon. I’m on Verizon atm as well. Thinking of switching back to ATT because it seems there’s more compatible devices.

I am finding the Moto G100 is less comfortable than my iPhone SE (2020). When looking back at my iPhone SE my eyes go “Ahhhh”. Moto G100 is used at brightness 65%.
Moto G100 is not nearly as bad as Galaxy A32 5G which is really uncomfortable (for me, I think we had a positive opinion from someone else).
iPhone SE (2020) which I use has panel lottery.
Edit: I returned the phone. It caused eye muscle tightening. Shame as it was a nice phone, very fast, great value, and the Ready For features are useful. I really hate returning electronics for this eye issue (it makes me feel terrible).
