  • Should I install the manufacturer WHQL driver for my monitor?

I have a 1070 graphics card and that stays updated. I noticed my monitor driver is a generic PnP driver from 2006. (Windows 10 default). I'm curious on opinions whether I should update my driver from the manufacturer. I'm supposing if I don't like what I see I can roll back the driver right?

Clokwork I'm curious on opinions whether I should update my driver from the manufacturer.

I think in most cases any monitor "drivers" are merely manufacturer provided ICC profiles, but if you provide some more information I might be able to take a look.

If it's what I think it is, yes.

JTL Thanks for the reply. You are right. It's simply an ICC profile. Since my monitor (by design and default) is only allowing 8 bit color and no HDR, I don't know how much of a difference it would make, but one thing I can say is that the default windows color makes the whites seem like headlights in my face.

Having a profile makes a difference with the whites. I've played around with a few that were provided or generated.

Be aware that you don't "have" to use a profile to change the white point. You can use the RGB controls in the monitor.

What the monitor device drivers also does, is provide an INF file to Windows saying these are the resolutions and refresh rates that are supported, if they are not automatically seen.
