Hello everyone, I'm trying to figure out the new visual defects I've been experiencing after buying a new monitor.
Recently I bought a new RTX 3080 card and to compliment it, I decided to go with a 27" 1440p monitor (i'm on Windows). I'm coming from a 23" 1080p 60Hz Philips 237E monitor, which is really nice but gives me blurry text. I bought a LG 27GP850-B and it gave me nausea and eye strain in the first hour of using it, which is apparently something that Nano IPS screens do to people.
At first, I thought it was just me adapting to a 165Hz and bigger display, but each time I sit in front of it, I get dizzy and my eyes start to hurt. Looking at it and then turning my head gives me vertigos.
But the worst thing is that I feel that the display is flickering extremely slightly and I can now see that flickering in my vision. It's a very rapid flicker. The brightness of this monitor is also all over the place, as 30+ is too bright, but less than 30 makes the screen way too dim.
It is to be noted that I'm prone to occular migraines and I have astigmatism, slight myopia and very very dry eyes. I also have severe anxiety which sometimes impairs my vision, and I'm sensitive to bright lights. LED lights also kind of mess with my brain, but it's usually because they are way too bright and/or I can see them flicker (which is not the case with my home lights and leds with warmer whites in general). I never experienced such a visual phenomenon in my whole life and it started with my use of this monitor.
I figured people of this community would maybe understand and/or experience the same thing, so if you have, feel free to share your story.
I'm trying to figure out what could be wrong and what I should do. I already ruled out the GPU as I plugged both monitor into my computer at the same time, and it did not make the Philips unbearable.
What is it in the monitor that leaves flickering artefacts in my vision? Could the higher refresh rate and display size be implicated? (i capped it at 120Hz though).
Could it just be a symptom of the eye dryness and fatigue this monitor gives me? Or maybe just migraines.
If it's the monitor, what are my options?
What should I look out for in a monitor nowadays in order to not get that extreme eye dryness ? (in terms of panel technology, max and min brightness, colors etc…)
