Curious to know what everybody was using 'back in the day' for long sessions or just comfortable use?
I don't know if it's an age thing, but I never had any issues with eye strain on screens of any type until the last 5 years, and I am very short sighted+strabismus.
I would never have a really expensive PC setup, just a budget CRT monitor, stock mobo graphics or cheap discrete card but put monitor refresh up to 75hz and running XP - was using my PC up to 12 hours a day with no eye strain.
Some other things I'm starting to realise are - in most households incandescent lighting was still used (no horrible energy saving LEDs), no flat screen TVs yet for most - you could still run your NES and XBOX alongside each other on the same TV 🙂. no input lag
Mobile phones were still mostly monochrome LCD until the fancy Nokia/PDA's and Sony Ericsson K700 series came along, even then they never bugged out my eyes when using them.
So my fave setup circa 2005 was my trusty CRT, custom PC build (Athlon XP) running XP Professional with Sony Ericsson K700i 'smartphone' 🙂. Also my executer3 modded Xbox with 400GB IDE HD (was a lot of money back then!)
