One thing problematic about PWM is that your modulation percentage greatly worsen as you decrease your brightness.
For instance with my macbook pro 13 2020 m1, it uses PWM and probably starts with over 100khz as mentioned by notebookcheck. However, notebookcheck did not provide the modulation in brightness as brightness decreases.
Below are my findings with Opple (I am unable to obtain accurate data on flicker hertz since Opple struggle with flicker hertz above 40khz to infinity ~ etc the sun )
- (full brightness) Modulation percentage of 3%
- (above 7 bar brightness) Modulation percentage of 17%
- (at 6 bar brightness) Modulation percentage of 35%
- (at 5 bar brightness and below) Modulation percentage of 88%
At such high modulation of 35% to 88%, some degree of eyestrain is inevitable after a period time of use.
However of course, a very small percentage of ledstrain members here are gonna pull out their tear gas cartridge weapons, pepper spray, smoke rounds and batons arguing that this is not PWM but temporal dithering.
Despite all the evidence given pointing to classical PWM.
IMO, these members are really just as silly, ignorant, uneducated and stubborn like flat earth theorist. Other than making consiracy theories (like what some of the others have pointed out) revolving around companies maliciously intending to make us all psychological impaired, I'm not sure what are they capable of other than making a big hoo-ha over their own self believed theories.
I feel that a number of members here really have a great deal knowledge to share but I've always avoided engaging in any sort of discussion since these flat earthers that are on the front line and ready to react immediately and mobilize with their silly pots and pans starter kit.
I came here looking for answers and solutions, but not to be involved or part of some kind of activist community where people goes "OH! nVIDIA lied! How disGusTing and VinDictive of ThEm!"
I'm not sure if this sort of uncivilised behaviour is really caused by temporal dithering that gradually contributed to them behaving like that(as what some alleged), or they were already like that before they were exposed to temporal dithering. Sorry to say this but logically speaking, I'm more inclined to think that it is the latter.☹️
The main reason why temporal dithering has been conveniently used as a tool for their conspiracy is because it cannot be easily verified. With other flickers, its existance can be verified hence it became not convenient for their argument. All the propaganda talk of "I am really sensitive to PWM too" is to really to gain empathy from the PWM sufferers and then to persuade them to join in their absurd game of creating nuisance.
I really hope that other members will take more efforts to remind those that have been unfortunately misinformed to confirm whether it is PWM, pixel inversion, aliasing or whatever flicker that affects them before jumping to the conclusion it is temporal dithering.
This misrepresentation of crowd is really making all of us look really bad.
