Long time lurker, I don’t post much. My background: I’ve had issues using any modern devices with LED or OLED (OLED usually much worse, especially on mobile devices). I have to use an iPhone 11, iPad Air 2, and iPad Pro 1st gen as my main devices, a htc Vive (1st gen) with mild discomfort. I’ve tried hundreds of screens and devices with different tech but none really work (migraines, eyestrain etc within mins).
I ordered Rokid AR glasses from Amazon just for the heck of it. I just wanted to try them to see what the hype was about and because it has some sort of special eye care, flicker-free, low blue light certification, and individual-eye myopia adjustment.
To my surprise, I could use them for hours with minimal discomfort!
I’m using them for my PC and gaming via an hdmi adapter (optional bundle).
Pros:
- easy on the eyes (IMO)
- very light and comfortable
- beautiful and crisp micro-OLED screen
- ability to switch between 60hz and 120hz with a button
- multiple levels of brightness adjustment (I used it on level 1, lowest.)
- supports 3D SBS content
- offers additional lense insert adapter for prescriptions
- No internal battery
- Plug directly into an android device/PC via USB-C with no additional adapters or power sources required (haven’t tested this personally)
- Minimal to no input-lag, great for gaming!
- Removable shade to allow backgrounds to minimally pass through (easier on the eyes without it on imo)
Neutral:
- HDMI devices require an adaptor which also requires a 5V power source.
- Not smart glasses, can only be used as a screen to mirror devices/ be a monitor. (a portable set-top box is offered as an option though)
- 215 in screen feels like an exaggerated claim, screen is probably close to 100 inches, which is plenty big.
- May have a short adjustment period, it took about an hour for my eyes to really feel comfortable, it was similar to VR in my experience.
Cons:
- The positioning of the screen makes the bottom corners kind of get cut off.
- The audio isn’t super loud.
- can get warm after an hour of use
- not plug in play for certain mobile devices (Nintendo switch, iPhone, etc)
Feel free to ask if you have any questions. I will probably keep these for another week before I return them. I can’t currently afford them because of a recent pet medical bill, but I will definitely be picking these up in the near future for permanent use.
