  • Trying new Prism glasses

Just got them today from my optometrist. He tried a +0.5 prism along the vertical based on his testing. Right now everything hurts just from wearing new glasses so I can't tell if it is helping yet, but lets give it a few days and see what happens.

And FYI any eye doctor can prescribe prism and any old eyeglass place can make lenses with prism. You don't need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on specialists. I had a pair of old frames I was able to re-use and I got these lenses made at a local eyeglass place for $45. Don't be a sucker like me and get fleeced for thousands and thousands of dollars by people claiming they are the only ones who can sell you the "cure"

ensete Hope it works for you. The vertical prism is either "base up" or "base down" and in a specific eye (or split between the eyes). I read it takes at least 2 weeks to adapt to the glasses.

If you really do have vertical heterophoria, it is not surprising vision therapy did not help.

AGI same, in fact they made me sicker because my eyes change so frequently that the prism lens can't keep up. Since the prism lens have a narrow range, I think the fact that my eye drifted so much, it actually made it worse. but I imagine the prism lens can be a cure for people whose eyes don't drift as much? good luck!!! I hope it helps you 🙂)

ryans Hi ryans, was wondering if you're located in the US and if you're interested to be our new tablet tester. I am working at a startup in San Francisco that builds eye strain free computer tablet. (I also have severe computer vision syndrome) Perhaps the tablet could be part of the solutions and improvement.

We are interested in having 10-20 enthusiastic users to receive our tablets for 2 weeks or longer, and share their experiences with us. It will also help us understand what type of eye conditions does the tablet help with the most, and helped us discover our super fans and any software bugs! It is free to be a tester.

if interested, you can email me at: tiffany@jangleinc.com

        Thank you! ^^

squidward_eyes_93 did you measure the "drift"? No drifting was detected in my case (camera + sort of VR device).
Prisms were just not the solution and I was recommended by three different specialists to not insist wearing them. I was also explained that some people "swallow" prisms, so the heterophoria gets worse and worse. It's a bit like those shoulder/upper body supports claimed to help improve posture. A physio would never advise using them as they will make your weak muscles weaker. Of course, there might be circumstances in which an external support is needed.

AGI wow I didn't know that! thank you so much for sharing this that prisms can sometimes make things worse. That is kind of my experience. appreciate this knowledge so much.

By drift, I guess I mean the level of prism prescriptions my eyes need seem to yo-yo a lot, so forcing one prism prescription can actually make things worse. For example, when I am going through a period of more stress, the prism prescription my eyes need tend to go up a lot; and vice versa, which makes it hard to chase after.

          Thank you AGI!! 🙂
