Well a lot of my problem is increased sensitivity. LED lighting has been around for a while, as has flicker and temporal dithering. These things didn't bother me before around 2012.
I find that if I remember to take my lutein, my XBox One is perfectly usable, and if I don't, it isn't. Could be something else, as when I take lutein I'm also taking my vitamins, drinking more water, etc.
