I thought any readers of this forum might find this interesting: Been using Honor Magic 5 pro for some 5 months. Now, when the brightness is above some 35% where there is only the 120Hz slight blinking of the screen, I'm able to use it several hours a day.
Few days ago I started wondering, why my eyes feel a bit hot and irritated and bloodshot. didn't pay that much attention to it. One evening I noticed the screen beingn unusually dark. The brightness was at 20%, which I slid back to 50. Then a few days afterwards I again was wondering why my eyes feel so irritated.
Then I checked and noticed that the brightness of the screen is again low. Then I checked and noticed that the autobrightness was on. Bingo.
Now after a few days, when I disabled the auto brightness again, my eyes feel fine. When the brightness is low, there is a PWM of 2100Hz.
This is not the first time this happens. Several years ago I had the same experience with a Sony LCD phone.
So to anyone: please realize that PWM with very high frequency could be your source of problem.
Obviously 2100Hz is something that is absolutely not visible by eye, but the optic nerve does sense it, similarly like ears sense 20 000 Hz "flicker".
I think most eye scientists even don't know this and it would be important to let them know this.
