Hi,

Has any one tried this hardware?

Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Ryzen / Nvidia 165 Hz WQHD screen version 16 Inch.

Since this is very non standard configuration screen, it is quite likely there will be low variability in suppliers of it. Which means notebook check test for PWM at least will come true - i.e. no PWM.

It could be ideal for lowering eye strain as it has all right boxes ticked:

No PWM
Good resolution WQHD
Dedicated GPU, which means it will be better and more configurable
High Refresh rate, which is always better for the eyes

Any experiences from real world usage? Of course I understand it is kind of odd question, since if people will be happy with it, they will not be in this forum 🙂, but I still insist on giving a shot.

I think a potential issue I have not looked at more is type of light emitted by the backlight leds (color spectrum).

photon78s does the legion have any issues at all even the slightest? Or is it fully comfortable for you? I just wonder if new OS can bring strain as it does for some hmm

photon78s I see. Based on your observations, not much hope then 🙂 But you clearly more with ease with lower resolutions and lower brightness and lower refresh rates. However, there is a bit of issue of testing monitors like this, because there are just too many variables, including how do you connect to pc/macbook, which color profile you pick on the machine, which color profile you pick on the monitor, do you disable temporal dithering with some hacks etc.

I personally would like to try lenovo legion slim with ubuntu linux on it, running either xorg or wayland window manager (right now my preference is xorg due to less strain and less blurry text overall on applications). Also having all dithering disable tweaks applied (if any would actually work). This could be my miracle "good old days" machine, were I would feel like true cyborg 🙂

I feel that their still some strain, just less than the other monitor's I've tested. I also like that the matte coating is not too grainy or rough. Now, the leftover strain I think it has to do also with the backlight led and color frequency. For example, I am not sure eyesafe is really "safe". photon78s yeah I was wondering if the light emitted and/or polarization being a possible trigger. Someone on a WeChat group that I'm in sells "sunlike" LEDs that you can use to swap the LEDs in a LCD. I'll attach a photo of the light they emit. Maybe it would be better ??

Yeah, imagine a RLCD type display that has an "indoor mode" using as natural as possible backlighting. Like transreflective (OLPC pixel qi) but with less tradeoffs. I find it helpful to take more frequent breaks and eye massages. It would be interesting to recalibrate the eyes by really being attentive to how things look in the real world. Then compare that visual sensation with what you feel from any screen or display. What display is closest to that real world sensation?
