new-jdm Well, I have worked on a 13 inch monochrome e-ink monitor from Dasung for three years (until a change to a new job where I still use e-ink and RLCD devices) and you can use such a monitor for work.
It entirely depends on the following things:
- unconventionally small size of the monitor: This really depends on if you don't mind the small size or can get used to a smaller size monitor. Over the years my eye muscles have, however, become really tight from all the squinting and am actually kinda glad that I don't need to use my 13 monitor that much anymore.
- whether applications are usable on a smaller monitor: this is more tricky. Of course operating systems allow you to change the default font size or allow you to magnify portions of the screen. But some applications will either not necessarily adhere to these settings or they will become unusable, since they have not been coded with font size changes in mind. But this is rare though.
- whether applications are usable on non-widescreen resolutions: This is also an issue that I ran into ever since I had to switch to eink screens etc. It's similar to the previous point that there are some applications that are not coded with a 4:3 ratio resolution in mind and won't be usable. This is also rare.
