Hi.
I need a monitor for programming, reading docs, articles and books and light gaming and movies.
I am not choosy i just want a pleasant reading experience.
Every monitor or newer screen i ever saw made me dizzy.
Maybe its pwm, maybe dithering maybe something else and i inherently benchmark cost cutting displays with my eyes.
I don't have it bad as some, but even looking at Retina displays(which are so far the easiest) and flagship phones makes me feel like the ground is moving and like i've steped out of a lower intensity carnival ride.
I am using a dell 1707fp as even that makes my eyes scratchy at the end of the day and sometimes in the middle and also slight focus loss. I don't know if any of you felt it I'm kind of scared that it might be CVS as I live near my screen trying to get a job.
The refurbished monitors I'm eying at are u2410, u2415, u2417, u2414, u2413.
I've listed it according to preference although I'm not sure.
u2412 is said to be of lower quality components than 2410 and slapped on a cheap LED.
But it is supposed to have higher pwm.
I only have one shot and if i make a wrong decision I have to ship it to a European country accross 2-3 countries.
I plan on connecting it to a Steam Deck as a work station.
Luckily Steam Deck is built on top of linux na supports many distributions through DistroBox.
I will experiment and try what feels right.
I couldn't have believed what I was experiencing a few years ago when I ran Linux Mint on my usb.
The way the eye strain lifted was wonderous, and sadly I can't get Mint to behave that is why I bought a Steam Deck as I don't need a beefy computer.
I am on the fence as i don't know what issues me.
I see people here say very good things about Dell 2410 but it has a noticable pwm below 20%, and the brightness is substantial as the ccfl is directly behind.
Yet it seems that it is highly regarded.
Other option is EIZO BK and GY line and the consensus is not determined as some adore it while others think it's overpriced.
What I would like is a quality bit matrix that has an option to turn of FRC from the control panel or in the OS and that is why i was impressed with 2410 but again pwm is what bothers me.
Also I wonder even if i change the gamut from sRgb to user on the dell will it still be unaturally saturated?
I found out that high saturation not only makes me nauseous but it actually distracts me, and I like to be focused not pretending like I'm working in a Blade Runner office.
Then again that is me.
