jpark28 Something really weird for me is that I can decently tolerate my newer OLED iPhone 14 Pro for basic phone use and watching videos, but I still hate looking at my old iPhone 12 regardless of brightness level (which seems to counter what a lot of people have said on the forum about the 12 being more usable and the 14 Pro being completely intolerable).
Ofc the 14 Pro isn't great by any means either but it doesn't immediately make me feel tired like my 12 does, it just has usual PWM symptoms like "the brightness level always feels a bit off", "steadily growing pressure in my left eye" and "feeling like I need to turn off the screen when I'm not looking at it" (because it starts feeling like it flickers in the corner of my eye, which distracts me from focusing on other screens).
My 12 also has much more noticeable RGB fringing/chromatic abberation visible around text and looks a lot blurrier to my eyes despite having around the same resolution. It almost had the feeling of if "the display was put in upside down" as the subpixels felt "backwards" to me in portrait mode. On the other hand, the 14 Pro doesn't have this issue at all, and is at least is able to look sharp and not hazy to me despite still obviously having the drawbacks that come with PWM.
Another difference between my 12 and 14 Pro is that the 12 always had terrible response times and input lag from the day I started using it.
Usually I associate iPhones with quick and immediately responsive UI, especially when scrolling, but the 12 always felt like it was lagging behind my finger by a significant amount — almost more like a really old Android device before higher touch sampling rates became popular. The UI still ran at a totally stable 60fps but I'm talking about specifically the "input" lag.
Comparing the 12 to any LCD iPhone or my 14 Pro (regardless of 60hz or 120hz) mode is a night and day difference, all of them are totally responsive compared to the 12. This is probably another reason why I prefer the 14 Pro.
Additionally, for some reason the 14 Pro looks pretty awesome in landscape mode and I have no idea why, the moment I switch it to landscape the screen feels so much more expansive and "dense with information", and causes significantly less eye strain than it does in portrait mode.
