I was hoping using safe (for me) w10 1809 build, I did clean install and only installed graphic drivers to make screen brightness adjustable
It doesnt work. I even changed display's EDID to have 6 bit, windows immediantly got bandings in test images, then I resolved bandings using ditherig (spatial or Spatial-Temporal 1).
I tested w11 23h2 (latest), w10 22h2 (latest), my beloved w10 1809. The last OS gave best eye-triggers after installation, but refresh rate was locked in 1hz and brightness was unadjastable
Then I installed graphic driver ( summer 2023 revision )... and after few moments get temples pain. I tried to limit EDID to 8 bit (originally was 10 bit), 8 bit+ST1, then to 6 bit, 6 bit+ST1
The pain 100% have accumulative effect, you need to use "bad" device for 4+ days at least 4hours per day. Reading text or watching videos, max brightness or min, max refresh rate or min refresh rate - doesnt matter. First 2 days you can feel yourself good, then second 2 days you can feel reaction for eyes after 20 min of usage. At the 5th day or later, when you start to use "bad" device, you get insta pain - deeper or around the eyes, at the top and deep of eyes. Its not eye pain at all, its eye-nerv/brain pain I suppose. If you use 2 days for 1 hour each, then take a break for 2..4 days, you will not get pain. Pain started after every day usage.
To conclusion, I can use w10 1809 with rtx2070s/rtx3080/3080ti in workstations without any issues with non-frc and 8bit+frc monitors, I can activate dithering using ColorControl or deactivate it - nothing is changed. But all newest builds (21...22....h1....h2) gives same eye-nerv/brain pain, and dithering settings not game changers. For new hardware intel Arc iGPU laptop this w10 1809 trick dont work.
