ledstrain-alpha Is MBA M3 even a good buy, should you guys say that the MBP 16" has a much better display for eye strain?
MBP 16" is even worse, avoid. Also avoid the 14". These have "mini-LED" panels which are the least comfortable displays I've ever used in my life.
Best MacBook for lowest eye strain is the 13" Touch Bar MacBook Pro (M2), I compared it to both M1 Air and M2 Air side-by-side very recently and the Touch Bar Pro has a much more comfortable display.
Also, in contrast to the 14-inch M2 Pro which uses mini-LED, this more obscure 13-inch M2 Pro with Touch Bar has a standard LCD for its main display. Apple still sells this 13" Touch Bar model refurbished.
The M1 Air and M2/M3 Airs are "alright" but they flicker on a 240hz slow-motion recording when displaying darker colors — even if temporal dithering is disabled.
In comparison, the M2 Touch Bar Pro does not flicker on any color in a slow-motion recording at all!
(As long as the touch bar screen itself is disabled, because that additional narrow screen is a flickering OLED. The main 13" LCD is way better on the Touch Bar Pro than the Airs though.)
Also, that's the wrong thread for disabling dithering on Apple Silicon, that thread is about Intel. In fact, that boot arg doesn't even work on newer Intel Macs, I have only noticed a difference on older ones. It does nothing on Apple Silicon.
Instead, see the Stillcolor thread for how to actually disable temporal dithering on M1 and later!
IMO, 13" M2 Touch Bar Pro + Stillcolor = the best possible screen comfort you can get out of all Apple Silicon laptops.
