Omen 27q monitor opple results (LG panel revision) TRUE 8bit

Here are the opple readings of a LG revision HP omen 27q 2023 monitor.
When you buy this monitor there is two revisions.. one uses a BOE panel which is BGR subpixel layout while another revision uses an LG panel that has RGB subpixel layout. You can tell which revision you get by looking at the box, it's noted with a revision. If it starts with B it's BOE and if it starts with L it's LG. This monitor supposedly is true 8 Bit.

I haven't put this monitor to the test yet with actually using it, waiting to come down from a flareup.

jordan I am still a bit confused why reader picks up flicker at ₁₂₀ Hz with fairly high modulation. Could this be refresh rate of monitor?

jordan Also could you explain what specific operaring system and computer you have attached to this monitor, as well as which cable did you use ?

Maybe there is a difference in this reading when you use different cables?
Maybe there is a difference when you use differed operating systems, mac os, windows 10, 11 ?
Maybe there is a difference when you install ditherig.exe, versus running without it ?

I am really looking for macbook users feedback. Also monitor is officially claimed to be flicker free, so I guess backlight is not flickering. And maybe because it is gaming monitor, there is no need for aggressive dithering, so HP strips off all the not needed components and ships bundget monitor, which miraculously can be better than premium costing monitors with same panel type, since they all have jacked up bells and whistles. That is the only way can reason this one out. But I think most important feedback here at least for me is - non scientific one. If this is the one, then I will grab it, it is not that expensive.

The HP model is not a good recommendation if you have a 50/50 chance of receiving a BOE panel inside…

Wouldn't the similar model from LG (27GR75Q) be better in this case?

Remco yes it's a similar panel. I have it,. probably the same experience.

The pictures are really helpful thanks, I see the 780H4AA#ABA model number on the sticker there, but it seems the only options I can buy in my silly little country is the 780H4AA#ABB or the 780H4E9#ABB model. Which surprisingly both are 165hz omen 27q but with a 100euro price difference. Anyone happen to know which panel those two model numbers use?

Or happen to know how one can check which panel it has prior to purchasing?

Donux I tried it briefly a long time ago and felt off but I think it could have been due to lots of OLED use making me sensitive. I dont remember what setup it was. I have read several people say the LG version of this omen monitor is great though. I just in general am sensitive more to LCDs with the only tolerable known one currently is my auo VA CCFL tv.

btw regarding mac might not be a bad idea to try a anker 563 hub which is display link as it acts as a different gpu. I know eink users use them to bypass the forced apple dithering which cause eink to flicker

K-Moss lol I dont think its neuroplasticity related because my CCFL VA tv is fine and I have laid my eyes upon random lcds in the wild like for example my brothers cadillac cue screen and they dont fry me but other displays which seem mostly to be ips can instantly fry me. For example any LCD apple device. I am not sure if its how the pixels let light through that makes the light more directed into the eyes causing issues. I think VA and TN have light passing through at different orientations I think and both of those are significantly better. I know several of my old alienware laptops were TN as well as very old dell monitors. I even found out my last asus laptop before my eyes took a turn was a auo TN so I think IPS just isnt compatible with me sadly.

Yeah OLED use I think can cause more sensitivity temporarily to LCDs which Id assume is from overstimulaing the cells/cones in the eye whatever its called. BUT long oled break never has made a bad IPS like the lcd iphones work for me so its not for all cases. Id say this omen is significantly better than any lcd iphone tho. I think the OLED issue today is due to how bright the panels are vs old phones like the s3,s6 etc. also wide color gamut which makes colors very intense when the light source alone is intense to begin with.

This. I went to the Apple Store today and it’s like looking into a white piece of paper with a bunch of pinholes. And before K-Moss chimes in, no, it’s not from OLED use. 2015 MBP doesn’t look like this.

The Retina Macs (pre-Liquid Retina) with the bezels don’t have this issue, even the Apple Silicon ones. IMO it’s likely the consequence of thinner designs which have fewer diffusers and thinner glass.

Could this largely explain why the Sonim XP Pro is so comfortable? The Gorilla Glass is said to be unusually thick.

Theoretically (big emphasis on this) the additional diffusion could affect how much direct light enters the eyes, which may be beneficial for those of us with photosensitivity.

I’ve really tried to dig into what the difference between Apple Retina screens (bezels) and Liquid Retina (notch) is, to determine variables. What I’ve found is:

More diffusion papers for Retina (less for Liquid)
Retina diffusion papers are white and yellow tones, Liquid is green and pink)
Different edgelit LEDs on the bottom
Thinner overall design (thinner glass)
Different glossy screen
Different aspect ratio and PPI
Redesigned chassis

Aquila Since you bought it, can you share what is a product/model number on your box? (And please anyone else who bought it). Is it 780H4AA#ABB ? I can see that Generation 1 of this product has two versions, one more expensive, another one is less expensive. 780H4AA#ABB number is more expensive one. Does it correlate with LG revision 1 to 1 ? @Autobot has stated that is the one, but I need more assurances, I can't just buy the whole shop.
