Hi,

I noticed from android 14 I have some eye strain and pain from looking the screen which didn’t exist in android 13, no matter if it’s lcd or oled(I did a test and had some phones with oled and lcd and downgraded and upgraded and noticed the eye strain started from android 14).

Is anyone feel that too? is anyone figured out how to solve it?

twomee I haven't tried it. I'm still using Android 5 on my phone. Can you downgrade to Android 13? Is it possible to avoid the Android 14 update?

orangepeel oh wow android 5 is bit old, nice!

I wanted to find a way to disable the eye strain I feel from android 14 version so I can buy new android device because the new ones comes with the latest android version.

i have tried oxygenos 14 no problem , i also tried lienageso21 no problem

Try covering (black electrical tape) the infrared led next to the selfie camera. You can shine a bright light to find it, it will sparkle red. I have a suspicion some Android versions are constantly activated the led.
The downside is the screen won't turn off when you put the phone to your ear, and also you won't be able to use face unlock.

Covering the IR make my Unihertz Jellystar perfect for my eyes. Although additionally I have to run it on full brightness due to PWM (Lucky the screen is not too bright)

K-Moss Yeah, it does concern me, but I mainly use it for watching videos, browsing the internet and reading documents (it's a Huawei phone that's 8 years old that has a perfect, still screen that can be used all day). I don't make credit card payments or enter personal information on websites with it. There might be vulnerabilities in SMS messages and things like that, so there are potential issues with it still. I should probably take the sim card out and use a different phone for phone calls.

twomee my phone after update android 14,i got eyestrain and if too long use i got migraine.as soon as you downgrade to android 13,your eyestrain dissapear ?

hansennnnn recently I noticed that android 13 also do migraines. I had galaxy s23 and when he launched he had Android 13 which didn’t do anything but one year later something happened and I can’t use him without migraines. I’m not sure what is the safe version but I think Android 12 I good for me.

          twomee

what type and brand phone that use android 13 that safe for you ?

can you screenshot what is kernel and date type android 13 ?

for one year you use s23 with android 13 no eyestrain or you just update android 13 after one year ?

what is brand and type phone android 12 that safe for you ?

hansennnnn I used s23 for half year with android 13 without any strain, with android 14 I started to get the strain. In the past I had pixel 6 with android 12 and didn’t got a strain.

I suspect it’s something related to firmware and not software updates

twomee so now you use your s23 with android 13 without eyestrain ? because CMIIW all samsung phone cannot downgrade because of binary system

firmware update is like update android 13 to 14 right ?

software update is just like update application like game chrome etc right ?

yesterday i already downgrade to android 13 but today it still make me eyestrain,is possible is the dithering or pwm setting from android 14 still in android 13 ?

K-Moss Android is not like Windows. Android cannot run arbitrary code. It can only run code in a signed APK file. Android is inherently secure because of this, new Android levels have very little to do with security and are almost entirely cosmetic and UI changes

I bought a Motorola G54 5G phone because it has an LCD screen without PWM.

As soon as I updated from Android 13 to 14 I noticed the strain on my eyes which obviously comes from temporal dithering (which was implemented in Android 14).

As there is no way to downgrade I sold the phone, bought another G54 (with Android 13) and blocked all updates right from the start.

What can I say? I never ever had any phone that is so good for my eyes! Highly recommended!

The downside is: I fear I will never be able to use any phone with Android 14 or higher.

Reinhard62 Do you have no problem with the same phone before update to android 14 ?

i have same case with you and i already buy the new one with same android 13 but still got headache
