Hi everyone. I'm new and thought I'd make a post on what's working for me so far. My specific issue is migraine with brainstem aura, and it's set off by that invisible flicker.
- Since I was shown the slow motion trick six months ago I've cut my migraines down from 40 h a month to 4 h, by making myself a map of which shops I've tested that have no or minimal flicker and which aren't safe. I'm using Google maps, which lets you create an overlay and colour things in, so I'm labelling shops as either blue (zero flicker), green, yellow (can use if I stick to certain areas), or red. It is a bit depressing as only 20% of shops locally are useable (I've now checked 330), but the not having 36 h of migraine a month is great!
- My work and home monitors are all AOC 24G2SE 165 Hz gaming monitors, which uses a DC backlight: https://playtech.co.nz/products/24g2se-23-8
- Indoor sunglasses, the coolest look... They're polarized, the lens cuts 80 - 85% of the light out, plus have a top and sides. I'm able to use them with that monitor and still see it, though unsure if all polarized lenses cut the same direction of light or not (assume not).
- The office lights above my desk have been removed, so that I only have to deal with the fluorescent lights for meetings (though my managers and colleagues are also great at just switching the meeting room lights off too).
- I've started closing one eye and looking at a natural light source when walking down the street and get dizzy from ambient shop lights. It helps a lot, whatever the mechanism is. I got that tip from photosensitive epilepsy resources - really interested to see the discussions on here about patching one eye and will definitely give it a go.
In my mid-thirties and my background is in science, but working as an analyst. I'm in NZ so if anyone else is local it'd be great to touch base.
