Computer monitor always makes my eyes tired

The light from the display seemed too bright and harsh for me. I've tried turning on night mode, turning down the display brightness, and I've tried adjusting the color temperature and contrast, but I'm not sure how much is appropriate, so it doesn't seem to help, and my eyes are still uncomfortable from looking at the screen.😥 Can anyone show me how to adjust the display to make my eyes comfortable?

I have a physical setting at my screen which is called color vibrance, and depending on the model, I turn it down to 8, where 20 is the max, and 1 is absolutely grayscale.

The reason I say that, is because neither color temperature, nor hue will make changes how much vibrancy you will have, not even at lowest brightness.

Nvidia says:
Digital Vibrance To compensate for poor lighting conditions when viewing your desktop, use the Digital Vibrance slider to increase the crispness/richness/intensity of the desktop colors.

I think: Digital Vibrance affects gamut and saturation.

A monitor can have a high brightness level even at the minimum setting. However, it might be that your eyes are getting tired due to other factors like PWM, dithering, pixel inversion, etc. PWM is a characteristic of the monitor. Dithering, on the other hand, can originate either from the monitor (commonly referred to as FRC) or from the graphics card.

I just noticed the "Current color accuracy mode: Enhanced" in this screenshot, that's really interesting, I've never noticed that in a nvidia settings panel before (I know my old gtx 1070 desktop doesn't have that). Edit: it was added in 2020

What happens if you change it to "Override to reference mode"?

NVIDIA says this about the setting:

When selected, color adjustments from the OS or other adjustment applications are ignored and rendered pixels are processed through the GPU pipeline in 1:1 pixel matching mode

Also, others on different forums say that there's a """bug""" where it will never switch back if it's ever set to Enhanced, so be cautious when experimenting with the setting — as sometimes it apparently doesn't "truly" activate the "reference" mode?

"With my single-monitor system, I was in Accurate mode. Moving any of the sliders in the control panel page you show causes it to switch to Enhanced mode. Restoring the defaults (upper right corner) doesn't cause it to switch back to Accurate. As far as I know, the nVidia CP will not switch back. A little bizarre."
