Sorry for yet another windows 11 post. Windows 11 Home 24H2 AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor Nvidia RTX 4070 LG 4k IPS monitor I've noticed my eyes straining when I'm using the windows desktop and while playing video games. In video games, I've seen improvement by switching antialiasing to NVIDIA DLSS. I've tried several things in windows without much success: * night mode * turning off windows automatic color management * I currently have the nvidia control panel set to use nvidia settings instead of windows settings in all of the relevant items * I've installed ditherig (from the amd folder) and have it running with dithering disabled. Not sure if that's correct. Does anyone have suggestions here? I had a previous computer with an i5 and geforce 1070 on windows 10 that never had these issues :-\\ With microsoft EOL'ing windows 10, I don't feel like i can back back. thanks!

@"bdschultz"#p40659 Apparently the issue is Windows 11 related and there's no way around it. You'll have to switch back to Windows 10 or earlier.

Personally I would try installing Intel drivers and NVIDIA drivers that are much older like this guy did - https://ledstrain.org/d/152-temporal-dithering-sensitivity-my-solution/531

I also had this problem with Windows 11.

I don't think there's any solution as long as you use Windows 11.

Go back to Windows 10. I have Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 21H2 with updates until 2032. Perfect for the eyes.

You are absolutely right, Reinhard.

I upgraded 2 PCs and 1 laptop to Win11 and it was painful within minutes.

I rolled back every machine to Win10 and be able to work instantly.

Thanks everyone. I tried novideo srgb and saw improvements, but there's still some strain.

I'll try the drivers first, then windows 10 2021 Enterprise LTSC 21H2

Thanks for the lead. I installed it, finding a key for $7.50. unfortunately, the problems persisted. I'll stay on windows 10 iot Enterprise 21h2 for now.

This is a new computer that I built a few weeks ago. The main difference that I see now is going from a GeForce 1070 in my old one to a rtx 4070 in the new one. I also went from an Intel i5 to a ryzen. I'll see if there's major changes in the color/dithering etc between those video cards.

Using novideo srgb on both os's did give an improvement

The problem is DirectX 12. And it cannot be removed from Windows 11.

Windows 11 uses features of DirectX 12 that Windows 10 does not. That's why Win 11 causes you issues but Windows 10 doesn't. Auto HDR for one thing, DirectX on Win 11 also does increased multi modal compositing vs DirectX on Win 10.

This is all baked into the OS and cannot be turned off or removed.

I've tried amd radeon integrated graphics & my Geforce rtx 4070. Same result. I have a higher refresh rate monitor coming in that I'm going to try

bdschultz DirectX 12 is on Windows 10 and 11 and is integrated in the OS. You can't remove them.

Try a Windows 7 build without it installed and see if that causes you no issues.

If it's like me you just have to white too white and that's hurt.

Go to Nvidia control panel.

Set the Color intensity output to 8bpc.

Then you will notice the difference but your eyes will thanks you.

Sometime the computer will change this value by itself. Take care.
