I have a really old 26-inch VA monitor / TV from 2004 (Sharp LC-G5C26U) — found it just a few months ago, and it's really good in my daily use. Wayyyyy better than all IPS I've ever tried.
Note that it has CCFL (but I don't think CCFL is the reason why it's good, as I also managed to achieve a comfy TN laptop setup in the last 6 months, and it uses a WLED backlight)
Note that my Sharp VA needs "truly good" output to truly be good though — AKA all Windows PCs I've directly connected to it still cause some strain, even with ditherig and Basic Display Adapter (still less strain than any IPS though!)
BUT, a 2011 Raspberry Pi Model B connected to it with force-disabled EDID which is possible on the Pi, the Dispmanx driver, acceleration disabled, and running a simple VNC client (that remotely views the Windows PC) works great for me, and doesn't cause that usual Windows strain!!
At least with this Pi output, the Sharp VA panel is actually better for me than some of the old 2000s CCFL TN monitors I have around which are only "tolerable-to-OK" for me.
So IMO this rules out it being a problem with VA itself (or at least the old Sharp "ASV" variant of VA) — as I've gotten a VA to be better than any IPS I've used lol.
