Background: I have been using an iphone 4s with ios 7 for the past few years. I found I had problems after getting a macbook pro 17 inch matte lcd screen. I had burning, red, watery eyes after 5 minutes. Such a visceral reaction. I am very sensitive to phone led. Still use an old ccfl laptop with ssd drive upgrade. Use mac mini and windows pc with ccfl benq monitor. Not sure if I am triggered by PWM, dithering, or blue light. Upgraded to ios 9 the other day, and now I get eye strain after 10 min. So I am guessing something related to how the led is driven is what is messing with me.
Thought I would roll the dice and buy the oculus rift. I can use it for hours! I usually only use it for 45 min at a time, mainly because I get physically tired.
The display is custom made for oculus. It refreshes at 90 hz. It refreshes all at once, not line by line/ scanned. It is oled.
Tried a friends google cardboard and samsung gear, and they both flickered like crazy. Was not a good experience. Would love a phone made and driven just like the oculus display! Maybe I should try the new Razer phone with high refresh rate?
So I would recommend giving the rift a shot, especially since the price has been getting lower.
