How is your experience of IOS 18.5?

I have updated my iPhone11 to IOS 18.5 and found not much difference in term of eye comfort. My iPhone 11 uses the screen panel from Toshiba. How is your experience?

I personally noticed eyestrain using 18.5 on iPhone 16e so I quickly rolled back to 18.4.1 which is fine for me.

ITwebs pretty noticeable difference. I cannot use normally after updating to 18.5.

Now, after rolling back it gets usable again.

I don’t think it is psychological factor…although…

What screen does your iPhone use? You may find it out through this, which is posted by Chirderf in reddit:

You can run sysdiagnose on your phone (press volume up, volume down, and lock button) all together for around a second. You will feel the phone vibrate.

Wait a couple of minutes and then go to Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Analytics and Improvements -> Analytics Data.

You will then scroll down and look for a file titled: sysdiagnose_XXXXXXXX.

Please take a look at my thread regarding Samsung phones introducing symptoms after specific OS update: Upgrade one app, phone is ruined, even after rollback? - LEDStrain Forum. Maybe in the case of iOS it's more or less the same - GPU driver update? Even security improvements can somehow affect the image and introduce symptoms.

For those who find a specific iOS update (especially the current version) to induce eye strain, though it may seem frivolous, I hope we are filling out feedback forms to Apple. Since so few of us are affected and/or have the technical knowledge/awareness of the problem, I think it is important that Apple hears from us as much as possible.

I haven’t on my daily phone because I can’t take the risk of updating my only useable phone (iPhone SE3 on iOS 16.1.1)

I’ll try it on an already “bad” iPad and see what happens.

Seems the effects of IOS versions on ipads and iphones are different? Even two different phones with the same model can have different impacts.

ITwebs Not sure about the software, but most iPads have very different screens compared to iPhones. iPhones use OLED, while iPads are mostly IPS, with a few exceptions potentially coming this year. So testing on an iPad might actually be a good idea.

I’ve got a 14 Plus with the screen swapped to IPS (so-called INCELL) and updated to iOS 18.5. After 15 minutes of use, so far so good. There’s not much difference from the previous version. Just for context: I haven’t been able to use any iPhone with the original screen on any iOS version since my first one, which was a 7 Plus. However, I’ve been able to use all my iPhones with INCELL screens (both high-quality and cheap knockoffs) on every iOS version without any major issues.
