Donux Haha nice one! What's the setup and hardware you're using?

randomboolean Its a macbook air m2 13 base model and Asus ZenScreen MB16ACV, 15.6", 5 ms. But rarely I use macbook, because it still cause significant eye strain on this screen, no matter what setings you throw at it. But with windows 10, linux its actually a good portable addition if you get tripod (which I do have, just did not take an image of it). It probably does not have PWM I am confident on that, but it does have FRC I think 6 bit plus 2 bit FRC. When it comes to software, everything seams to be good with it, since macbook did recognize narrow color gamut ICC profile (which I have tested), which is good. Not sure about windows, if it does send sRGB or native device ICC colors, but windows color management is obsolete, so I think it does send sRGB. All in all, windows and linux is good portable setup. But overall it did not solve what I have tried to solve with it. So I might have paid for dell proper monitor, apart from the fact that smaller monitor such as this has positive effect on tiredless of eyes, especially after gaming sessions.

I don't know why Mac supposedly can't just send a simple sRGB (limited) signal out to displays.

Clokwork It is something odd how it works with macs. I still find generic RGB much more easy on the eyes, then narrow gamut MB16 (Asus icc) profile. This suppose to be other way around, but it is not. And Generic RGB is Apple's version of sRGB, I do believe it has something special about it, apart from noticibly lower gamma levels.

Donux I don't know if all monitors work this way, but at one point I was very interested in an Eizo true 8 bit monitor that used a LUT (Look Up Table) to match as closely as it could whatever colors it was sent from the source to keep it in the 8 bit range. No FRC.

Clokwork I do not see them being any different than Asus. Marketing is the same - hybrid solution in terms of brightness control. So they do use PWM, it is just combined with DC dimming.

Donux Some EIZO monitors are PWM free, but I believe the brightness range isn't as wide as the hybrid solution.

Hi Folks, just want to update. I do actually still use this setup, it does have a bit of eye strain, but at least there is no residual severe pain after going away from the screen. And settings are very counter intuitive. I personally do not understand, but "Generic RGB" generates least dithering for me. And its not gamma related at all. On Zenscreen its all standard mode out of a box as reset would bring me too. Only thing I do is reduce brightness on macbook using keyboard (enabled only when you install betterDisplay).

Please do not take this as "I recommed". No, portability is very cumbersome, and that strain on the eye always there. This is not - "the one", but closer I would think.
