Hi all! Been lurking for a while. As a disclaimer I have no idea if I have led-strain per se, but after five years of visiting specialists and doctors and listening to them it seems Covid gave me some kind of brain damage that specifically affects my eyes and brain. This makes it so that I get massive eye strain and almost seizure-like symptoms from certain screens, applications and games, while others are perfectly fine.
One of the worst culprits for me is Unreal Engine. Out of all the games that have given me the above symptoms, 90% run on Unreal Engine. Coincidentally there are also other games that run on the engine that are perfectly fine. Sometimes I can fix this by editing the engine.ini file to disable all the post-processing crap. With Stalker 2 I had to manually edit the engine.ini to render high-quality assets from further away. With other games I absolutely cannot run DLAA and have to use TSR. On and on it goes.
I was wondering if anyone has a similar issue with Unreal Engine and have been able to pinpoint what could be the cause of this eye strain? The engine is very popular and dodging it is hard if you want to keep playing games.
Games that gave me problems that were not fixable:
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden
Dragon Quest XI
South of Midnight (still working on it but have not had any success yet)
Games that gave me problems that were fixable:
Hellblade 2 (had to turn off all post processing through .ini edits)
Stalker 2 (had to manually increase draw distance of high quality assets through engine.ini settings, and had to use TSR instead of DLAA / DLSS)
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened (turned off all post processing through engine.ini)
Lost Records: Bloom and Rage (had to turn off bloom and depth of field)
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (had to turn off all post processing and disable fog)
Games that gave me no problems:
Alone in the Dark
Avowed
Dead Island 2
Plague Tale: Requiem
Other games that gave me massive problems but were not made in Unreal Engine were Super Mario RPG remake, Paper Mario (switch version, forgot what it's called) and Horizon Forbidden West. Games made in Unity very rarely if ever give me problems.
