I have this Lenovo T16 Link

Wonderful 16" screen completely free of pwm. And with Windows 10 no dithering either.

Reinhard62 did you check it under a microscope? or just symptom wise you can tell?
Maybe the new amd stuff is better than intel graphics nowadays

When I had installed Windows 11, I had terrible eye strain by dithering. That is completely gone since I downgraded to Windows 10.

I am very sensible to pwm and dithering and I know how both feels.

With the T16 I can work for 10 hours a day without the slightest strain.

Reinhard62 What symptoms do you get from PWM? What symptoms from dithering? Also, do you have astigmatism, and approx how strong is your uncorrected vision?

After using Windows 11 for some weeks my eyesight deteriorated. I couldn't read small print any more. And I kind of "felt" that something was wrong with the screen. The picture was somehow not "stable".

After switching back to Windows 10 my eyesight recuperated in about 4 to 5 weeks. The screen looks as stable as printed paper again.

Never again will I use Windows 11! Since the dithering crap or whatever else is deeply integrated into Window 11's version of DirectX 12 there's no way to turn it off.

(PS The hardware was always the same. My T16 laptop from Lenovo.)

Reinhard62 I wonder what exact panel is in your t16. I think hwinfo64 will show under monitor tab. I forgot device manager shows that lenovo model which actually isnt the panels model

But in general newer Lenovo Notebooks are all PWM free. That's why it is my favourite brand.

Reinhard62 that isn't the actual panel model. Manufacturers sometimes put their own id unsure why. I think the actual one will be visible through hwinfo64

Aquila I have lgd064e panel(6bit+frc) on HP Elitebook 845 g7, AMD 4650u, Vega 6.

Before installing AMD driver, the display looked so good, also with no banding on grey scale. After installing (tried OEM plus AMD official) I couldn't even look at it for 10 minutes strait. The best visual sharpness and focus I found is on windows 8.1 with microsoft basic driver. I used my laptop and looked at my display for 3 hours straight without any issue. But had to move to 11. I really hoped AMD didn't force GPU dithering or whatever it does to make display look like shi*. They could have given us a toggle at least.

The culprit is not AMD but Windows 11.

Aquila tried Linux. It's little less but usually same like nimez driver or Radeon ID driver. Maybe some processing is less, still I get issues.

I tried windows 10 also same thing. With windows 10, it's also less issue. The most effective one I liked is windows 8.1.

As soon as I installed AMD driver, the same thing keeps happening whether it's 10 or 11. Before loading AMD driver on Linux, it was fine. It's AMD issue to me. Some where it's worse (official driver on windows), some where it's less (nimez, Radeon ID driver, or normal Linux ). It's AMD issue to me.

Another option is to buy an external screen for your laptop and turn off the laptop screen if it irritates your eyes. You can even connect two different screens. It's cheaper than replacing the laptop, but only if your workspace allows.
