Overview:
- I am in my late 40s and for the last 30 years, I've used computers on average 8+ hours/day. I don't wear glasses. I have good vision. I have found that since 2014, monitors seem to hurt my eyes more, and gone through several, only to go back to my BL3200PT, which I can use for long hours without issue.
- I bought the Dell U4025QW (new) because it was supposed to be 5* Eye Comfort certified, which I think is simply untrue.
- I want to love this monitor, yet, no matter what I've tried, it seems to harm my vision in an increasingly noticeable way within weeks, and I like being able to see.
- For example, within days/weeks of using it on normal settings, small text seems blurrier and it seems harder to read in a dimly lit restaurant… HOWEVER if I switch back to my BenQ BL3200PT monitor, my eyes recover. This has happened a few times in a row and each time I try something new.
- I have tried everything obvious, from different blue blocking glasses, to blue blocking film, to all obvious settings, to using Better Display. Reducing contrast and turning blue light down seemed to help, but this in turn meant, colours were wrong.
- I tried to contact TUV Rheinland who fobbed me off and literally refused to let me contact the people who had certified it.
If you have any thoughts on this, I would love to hear them. In terms of caring for your eyes, I recommend you avoid this monitor. Soon I will take this up with Dell.
Anyway, my latest discovery relates to 8bit + A-FRC which is presented as 10bit, leading to possible vision issues. I had already installed StillColour to disable dithering. It took me a few hours of understanding this, because Better Display didn't actually output a signal over thunderbolt in 8bit, to switch off A-FRC. Then I had an idea… maybe I could force this by using an old HDMI cable, which worked with Better Display, when I changed it to 8bit, as confirmed on the monitor.
I would love to hear any thoughts anyone has. Do you have a large format monitor you can use for 8-10 hours/day without eye issues? I will know soon if this has helped.
Any insights are appreciated.
