hpst My CCFL panels have PWM and dont matter to me.
This should only be a issue in LED backlights.
Same reason incandescent bulbs never bothered me when dimming.
For me, things have shown up like this:
Monitor > Graphics Card > OS.
For me, I have a perfect setup right now (ViewSonic VA2455sm + Nvidia 750Ti + Linux)
But entertainingly when I switch to windows it starts affecting me. Go figure.
Maddeningly, in each given model there's many different places manufacturing them, any of which could have that "good" combo or not.
I wouldn't suggest going to best buy. Too much exposure, the delay in reaction and its duration makes it hard to tell what's doing what.
If you've had a amazon account for awhile, you can try purchasing them online, you can return even expensive things.
Here's a email I sent them last year

My concern involves this product but may involve other laptops for reference.
I am affected negatively from using devices that use PWM and forms of Dithering for their displays.
There are several review sites that list information about models that help identify features (such as not using PWM) which I use to help improve the odds I will be able to use it.
However, ultimately the only way I can tell is by turning the device on and looking at it for a short period of time.
This means I have to open the box and turn it on.
My question is, if I cannot use a device (laptop), is there anything I can do to make returns easier / minimize fees?
Thank you for your time.
Spoiler alert, laptop was no good and I did receive a full refund
laptops are tough. I've mostly settled on desktop use for now.
