Is there any way to enable/apply dithering on my monitor

Hi,

I’ve got a Xiaomi G34WQi ultrawide (3440x1440 VA). It’s only 8-bit, and the color banding looks pretty bad. I’m using an AMD RX 6700XT and I’m wondering if there’s any way to reduce the banding with a dithering algorithm. Is there any software or tweak that can help?

The drivers you use play a role. Try making a Linux Live USB stick and booting from it and seeing how it looks with those drivers. AMD unfortunately does not have the ability to turn off dithering in Linux, so you WILL have dithering.

I believe you could simply lower your refresh rate to let the 10 bit signal go through. It's due to bandwidth limits. This link says "Up 10-bit at 144Hz and below, 8-bit above 144Hz".

BTW you could also use ColorControl or AMD Adrenalin to adjust the related settings.
