I noticed most phones are linearly polarized. When you turn them into landscape mode with polarized sunglasses, they get very dim, indicating what I say is true.
This is why some get better results shifting the phone to landscape mode and why some get better results with certain screen protectors that alter the polarization.
TCL's Nxtpaper phone is one of the very few using circular polarization.
