I bought the A5 2017 [OLED] a couple of months ago and I've been using it daily... not too much though. Reddit, check news and that's it... nothing out of the ordinary.
However, I've been noticing severe eye strain and pain in my eyes during and after I use the phone. It's come to the point that I can't look at it anymore. I take another phone (Lumia 925) and I can look at it for days without any problems. My laptop too. TV. But when I take the A5, my eyes hurt and afterwards my eyes are all blurry and I can't focus on objects in the distance.
I've taken a break from using the phone for 2 days and it's gotten better... my eyes no longer hurt and I can focus better.
Anyway, anyone had similar problems? It seems that AMOLED displays don't suit my eyes at all. What I think is the problem is TOO MUCH GLARE when I look at the screen. The display is too perfect, and while that is a good thing, it is a problem. When I read something on Reddit for example, there's always glare and I have to turn the screen a little to escape it.
Found this older post via Google. I am in the exact same position. I have been using the device with lower brightness levels and have noticed severe strain in my right eye.
"Severe strain" reminds me of this: https://ledstrain.org/d/3651-torture-devices-for-a-considerable-minority-some-interesting-color
It’s a completely artificial stimulus that just so happens to function as a torture device to some. Some people handle being waterboarded better than others. Since these are artificial stimulus, it’s possible being well-adapted to them could even be negative evolutionary traits or even having slower reflexes/neurological system might save you from PWM.
