Guys I think I'm on to something!!! Maybe we have some borderline strabismus, that is so small that our optometrists can't detect it with their analog equipment!!
Let me explain you backwards. If you have small prescription, like +0.25 do not put the glasses on, but hold them on the side and look through them with one eye only (do not close the other eye, use it without lenses), or if your prescription is not same on both eyes fold the eyeglasses and hold them in front of you on the nose.
My problem started 2013. I was not wearing glasses before. My problem seems to be focusing the eyes on screens only, instant discomfort. Everything else feels normal, even reading books....till recently. First few years I could read books without problems for prolonged times, then slight reflection started bothering me so I started reading only with polarized sunglasses or stay away from windows. Half year ago I changed jobs, moved from full time remote job to full time in office so my condition worsened not being able to hide from reflection/lights.
Recently I started getting slight discomfort even when reading books even with the polarized sunglasses or the computer glasses. Which kinda led me to this discovery. I felt like one eye feels slightly weaker, when it gets strained I feel like it is smaller, feeling it rounder. The "good" eye is the stronger one that strains faster! After overuse (~1-30min depends on a device) they both feel strained the same.
I went to the optometrist for the 6th time month ago just to get disappointment getting again same prescription as 2 years ago.
Originally I was given prescription +0.75 with +0.5.
Subsequent 3-4 times it was +0.5 on both
After mentioning that the 0.25 gunnars help me more than the previous 2 pairs, got +0.25 prescription too.
For those who do not have prescription, all these are so small that many people might need them but don't know.
With all 3 combinations, I can feel there is slight zoom, but regards to the focusing discomfort and strain they are kinda all the same.
So holding the 0.25 or the 0.50 on my bad eye (the 0.75 feels too strong of a difference) and nothing on the "good one" I do not get the strain!!! I tested this for more than half days yesterday and today, even against the Macs!!
Also when I use the glasses as I'm supposed too and start feeling the strain, I switch to this one eye test and I start feeling how the "good" eye starts relaxing
However there was a gotcha. I simply took off the lens of the good eye and put the glasses on (looking like crazy person), that did not work well (although better than having both on), but if I hold the lens in front that works out very good! This way you can test moving the focus around!
Planing to schedule new appointment and get new pair (the one that should work good for the first time!!).
PS yes the chromebook still feels more like a paper book than like the Mac when using the original prescription.
I think we get light sensitive instantly due the non visible strabismus. With the one lens only I was able to tolerate even the Mac under lights and next to a window!!!
Amber, orange, green, red..all tints felt better than the non-tinted prescription glasses, but now I think that is just cause they lowered the brightness not that it was related to certain wave length of blue light (at least in my case).
Hope this will be the final solution and not just temporary adjustment of the eyes and then they go bad again :S
