Hi,
I discovered that using LVDS (Spread Spectrun Clocking) SSC gives me
postive experience with my laptops.
Some details on LVDS SSC are available at:
https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/application_notes/xapp469.pdf
https://patents.google.com/patent/US7443389B1/en
https://patents.google.com/patent/US6046735A/en
I use Manjaro Linux KDE on three Lenovo ideapad laptops: Z51-70, 310, 510s.
From the dmesg output, I see that only on 510s lvds ssc is enabled in
the bios. Since there is no option for me to change that in the bios,
I passed the kernel command-line i915.lvds_use_ssc=1, to use ssc.
With this option enabled, I feel the display is clearer. However, I am
not sure whether its due to reduction of EMI or the effect of ssc on
what is shown on the display.
Please see if you could try this (either through bios or kernel
command-line) and comment on your experience.
Also, if there are any expers out there on lvds ssc, request you to
comment on this phenomenon.
Ravi
