I'm at a stage where I need to find a new hardware set up. My default good system is too slow, and my attempts to get something acceptable haven't worked.
What risks would you see with a modern CPU (e.g. 8th/9th gen Intel, 2nd/3rd gen Ryzen), an nvidia GTX 6xx card, and a CCFL monitor, running an up to date Win10?
I've tried a similar set up with a GTX 770, and had minor eye strain/visual snow with it. (It's hard to tell after my eyes have been bad for years, but the problems seemed to slowly deteriorate - could be wrong)
Would a 6xx be worth a risk?
Would it be better to go even earlier/use a different card?
Any other advice towards getting a "safe" system using up to date Win10, running mainly office software (including weekly work on some large datasets, calculation times about up to 10 minutes) with a little 1080p video?
Is a remote desktop using a 2009 laptop connected to a modern system (e.g. i7-8700 with or without GPU) a decent bet?
