Hi there
I am a Digital artist!
I have some problems with displays screens, and lights.
I wear eyeglasses for my eye vision defect from when I was a child, without them I don't see clearly.

My problem with light in general
Mostly, When I stay at screens for a long time of use, I get dizzy.
Mostly, when I am outdoors in a sunny way, some reflection may distract me, and if I get into something very reflective or I look at some shiny light for more than 2 seconds, I get light blinded for the rest of the day.
Mostly, when I go out to those big shopping centers, I see the people's happiness, (me too.. I am very happy to spend all my money haha), but seriously, I get confused, dizzy eyes and head fast, pretty fast. It is like all those light wanna my attention, and then I get lost with the focus.

What makes me happy?
Sunset. The absence of direct light makes me happy and healthy! I'm sure guys, that my situation, that bad light makes me depressed, unhappy person!
You should hang out with me at sunset. I am a different person!! Its the only half/ 1 hour of the day I can get relaxed... Oh if I only could leave this situation all day!!

So?
What type of exams should I do? EEG? Also, something to help me get the light blindness problem back?

My problem with artificial light (smartphones, monitors)

I owned a ton of different devices, iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, Nexus 5, Xiaomi mi5, Sony PSP, Varius laptops, Varius monitors, etc.
I always, always, found out the light from monitor and displays hurting me generally, but 2/3 years ago found out that screens like OLED, or ips that use PWM, hurt me differently, like creating anxiety and moment of dizziness and eyestrain!
But God is with me and helped me choose those devices:
Phone: Huawei P20
Monitor: AOC Q2577PWQ

So far the best displays I ever had! No issues so far! With both!

I wear glasses all day long, I tried yellow-tinted, full UV and blue light protection from Zeiss for 6months. I found good (i had no more headache), but I'm returning it because I wanna see colors without the yellow filter. It is very annoying. So I have done the Zeiss silver premium! Those have also a UV filter and block UV light, but they are transparent, so I can see colors as nature

So, What exams should I do?

I tried different display tablets to work on: Ipad pro, Cintiq pro, etc, etc...
Even tho I wanna know if Cintiq Pro 16 flicker or use PWM, I know that Ipad Pro 2nd 12.9 has no flicker (as notebook check website says). I have no issue with iPad Pro, but after 2/3 hours of drawings, I think some dizziness is perfectly normal... I mean I get dizzy (less but I get it) also when drawing on paper for long, I think that is eye muscle.

Anyway, my big goal is to draw digitally, without having problems! To me is very important, It is my work, I cannot have Insecurity.
Firstly I would like to measure PWM on the Cintiq pro 16! What can I do as a perfect noob as an electrician? I saw you build yourself some tools, I get my eyes on the Radex Lupin, but it only captures up to 6000hz.. is that too low? What can I buy that has all I need in one tool, so I can measure PWM, light in the studio (to get good lightning), and such other stuff to help resolving vision problems due to lights?

I think I may also need to work on my lightning and settings for the luminance of the screen that usually calibrate it to 80/100 CDM2

I wait for your feedback guys!

@martin Thanks

Hi there, welcome to the club :-(

lillo9546 I wear glasses all day long, i tried yellow tinted, full uv and blue light protection from zeiss for 6months, found good (i had no more headhace), but im returning it because of i wanna see colors without the yellow filter.. is very annoing. I am very interested because I have enormous troubles under certain types of lighting as well as with modern displays. I have not benefited from wearing cheap (USD 10) orange goggles to cut the blue. Do you reckon you are intolerant to blue light or do your glasses protect from else? Are you okay with LED and fluorescent lighting, with and without glasses?
I have been considering buying expensive Nikon (USD 250) lenses with a tint, but the optician was not unable to explain me why one tint or the other (yellow, rose, blueish), and I never finalized the purchase. How do you compare your experience with the yellow tinted Zeiss glasses and the silver ones?

Do you work under lighting? Which type? Do you become dizzy also if you work in natural light?

For me there is a clear difference between "good" and "bad" devices. If my eyes are not already spoiled, I can stay many, many hours on a "good" display, almost without break. I mean, I may take a break because I cannot concentrate anymore or just to chill out, but not necessarily to rest my eyes. With a "bad" device, it is like a strong allergic reaction. I immediately develop eyestrain and neck pain. Last year, then I stopped testing phones, I also experienced something new. Some smartphones like Samsung S10 and Iphone X looked okay at first glance, but after 10 minutes of use my eyes would literally go nuts. Last time I got triggered, it took me a night and most of the day after to recover.

AGI Do you reckon you are intolerant to blue light or do your glasses protect from else?

Hi m8! I wear glasses because I dont have a clear vision without them 🙂, basically for that.

AGI Are you okay with LED and fluorescent lighting, with and without glasses?

No, at all! Both with and without glasses.

AGI How do you compare your experience with the yellow tinted Zeiss glasses and the silver ones?

Thoose lenses I weared are amazing. I got from 5 minutes to stay at one monitor, to 1 to 2 hours. You can pratically feel that you no more need anything else to protect you. But since I am a digital artist, to me color matter most, so I have ordered thoose silver ones that seems to do the same job (not at 100%, but likely 30%), but the lens is trasparent so color still natural.

AGI Do you work under lighting? Which type? Do you become dizzy also if you work in natural light?

When i work on Paper, i get dizzy because my eyes just get lazy because I was at the canvas for 1 hour straigt, so getting eyes back to long focus is hard for first 10/20 seconds.

I dont know why but with certain devices screens i have things that amplificate anxiety and stress. I think that is PWM, so I am searching a valid way to detect PWM on potential harmful devices, and also get my studio lighting to a point.
I work in Natural light even when working digitally on the tablet, when needed, i have a desk lamp, and usually I activate it at sunset. I locate the light point to the back of the monitor. So i saw this radex lupin, that could help me also determine how much light i would need. What do you think? Should i buy it or there are alternatives?

      Thanks on your answers.

I had never heard of "RADEX LUPIN". I was actually looking for a device that measures flicker in a direct manner and it is portable. If it does that, and it costs only ~ USD 85, I'll get one. So far I found equipment for over USD 1000.

AGI Wait for someone more expert than me to reply on this topic 🙂
