I had a dream that I could buy this top of the range monitor and with you guys rejoice that this higher spec monitor is the solution to any eye strain issues but alas it isn’t!

ive had it for less than a week now and my eyes have become bloodshot leaving me unable to use it.

Im in the process of putting it on the wall to create some distance but that will make it harder to see the text no doubt, the brightness was at default level and that was very very bright I guess, now I’ve set to like 30 instead of 75 etc. Not sure if contrast should be up or down, I know the contrast of this monitor is 1000 and less than VA panels. Seems IPS is part of the TFT family and I’ve had issue with those before, my last one was a TN benq panel and I could manage with that fine for the most part, 24 inch.

im kind of clutching at straws now and stuff like work or learning courses are on hold until I can find a way forward

Knowing how bad some return policies are. I'd return it while you still can.

Looks great on the picture. I also thought of getting one of those, but I'm sure it would be terrible for my eye strain so I ended up avoiding it.

wipe0wt how have you got it hooked up ie. Display port cable or HDMI. For me I can't look at any Hz rating over 60hz on TV's as image seems to pulsate. I'd try it through the hdmi at 60hz rather than 144hz in display port. Just give it a go and let us know. Also turn sharpness down to zero if that's an option.

Personally, I'd suggest buying and returning budget screens until you find something adequate. LED display technology just isn't good enough to have meaningful money tied up in any monitor. I reckon you're always going to have buyer's remorse if you pay too much for any LED screen. If you want more screen real estate, just buy a second one.

Regarding brightness, try using it at 5. My VA was set to 3 brightness for night usage, but I've continued using it at that level of brightness even in the day with ample ambient lighting through my windows. The adjacent IPS also is way turned down at 4 brightness. Your eyes will adapt to the lower brightness so that after a day or two you won't even remember your backlight is turned down so much.

Speaking of which, I like two different panel technologies on the two side by side monitors because they each engage the eyes in different ways.

DiscoDave Hi, as it happens its Displayport, well mini DP to DP. In the past I've used DVI Dual to send the signal over, curious idea however that the cable might cause something. I can't work on 60hz I know that much as its similar to laptops, I could give it a try, willing to do anything at this moment in time! My old monitor was a TN which you'd think would be bad but I could sit on that thing all day long after getting used to it. This one is kicking my ass though atm, not sure if its one I want to get used to

Thanks I've got the brightness right down now. I wish I could just pin down what the root cause of this issue is, its abit severe to need to get used to something like this, I wouldnt mind a bit of dry eye here and there but when it makes you feel sick its a bit bonkers, especially for £1500. Its weird because my IPS ipad 10.1 doesn't cause me any discomfort hence my rational with putting all my eggs in the IPS basket. 2 screens is more space granted but this beast is an ultra wide which I'm finding much nicer for productivity.

I did find this nice little blog here https://www.esportstales.com/tech-tips/ideal-distance-to-sit-away-from-your-monitor about viewing distance, very useful.....

Im also looking into dry eye remedies atm, maybe some of these warm patches might help...meh meh meh!

      Cheers

I think I’ll return this monitor and start looking into zero backlight monitors like lcd, makes sense since this was ultra bright and fecked my eyes badly....so turning the torch off make sense, just need to work out if any good eye friend non pwm exist or not....failing that then AHVA perhaps but don’t know why this is better than IPS
